PCCSF Adds First Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner To Staff
As part of National Nurses Week (May 6-12), we would like to formally introduce you to Pediatric Critical Care of South Florida’s first advanced registered nurse practitioner, Jennifer Highfield, DNP, ARNP, CPNP-AC.
Read on to get to know Jennifer and her new role as an ARNP for PCCSF.
According to Gallup polls, Americans have ranked nurses as the professionals with the highest honesty and ethical standards for the last 15 years. Not only do nurses play a role as caregivers, they often times are communicators, patient advocates and teachers, making them an important piece in the healthcare system.
Jennifer plays these roles on a day-to-day basis, and we’re thrilled to have her join the PCCSF team.
As an ARNP at PCCSF, Jennifer works alongside the physicians and physician assistants to manage pediatric patients in the critical care setting. This includes assessment, diagnosis, and the careful management of patients. She also assists with the admission, transfer and discharge of PCCSF patients.
Prior to becoming an ARNP, Jennifer worked as a registered nurse for six years in Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital’s PICU/CVICU. It was this experience that motivated her to advance her career in nursing and make the strongest impact on her patients.
Jennifer obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Nova Southeastern University. She then attended the University of Florida where she completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree with a specialty of Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, as well as the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. She is interested in the management of patients with congenital heart defects, and enjoys providing ongoing education to nursing staff, including her role as a Pediatric Advanced Life Support instructor.
Jennifer has been living in South Florida since 2007 after moving from Massachusetts. She and her husband welcomed daughter Leilani on Christmas Day 2016.
