Pediatric Critical Care of South Florida (PCCSF) was recently featured on the local South Florida ABC affiliate, WPLG, Channel 10, for their work with premature infants.
Doctors at PCCSF use a family-centric approach to care in which parents and families are not only included in each and every step of the treatment, but are also trained to provide care at home once the patient is released.
In and out of hospitals since he was born in February 2011, Colin Guanella entered the world at 25 weeks weighing slightly less than one pound.
His mother, Amanda, was trained by PCCSF doctors to learn how to work with a ventilator, clean and change tracheal tubes, change breathing tubes, provide CPR and help resuscitate him whenever necessary.
The best treatment for children is to get them well enough to go home. The end result is not only better for children, but an overall cost savings for families.
